THE MOST IMPORTANT MESSAGE FIRST!

We are having a very early and very warm spring in Alberta……..however the dry conditions have contributed greatly to the wildfire raging in Fort McMurray in northern Alberta.   The entire town and surrounding community of over 90,000 people has been evacuated and many have lost their homes to the fire.  And it is not over yet.

We, along with many others, have stepped up to help in the best way we can.   We are using a part of our warehouse to collect quilts and will coordinate having them shipped to Fort McMurray for the families who have lost their homes, once it is safe for them to return and begin rebuilding their lives.  We are also asking our suppliers/quilt designers to donate a quilt (the first two have been pledged from Studio 180 Design by Deb and Sue Tucker) – we will be auctioning these quilts off to raise money which will be donated to the Red Cross (stay tuned for details).  If individuals or shops are collecting quilts, we are happy to accumulate all in one location to send them all together once we have distribution details worked out.   We appreciate your help in spreading the word.  See our Facebook and Instagram pages for updates. #quiltsforymm   The first quilts have arrived with many more on the way.  Thank you to all who are working to help our neighbours and friends in Ft. Mac.

NEW PRODUCTS AT ERIE QUILT ART

We are constantly striving to bring the best quilting products to our customers.  Here are some of the newest products:

Studio 180 Design

We have just received our first shipment of Studio 180 Design’s newest tool – Large Square Squared – Gail had the chance to play with a prototype at the Certified Instructor Workshop in North Carolina in late March – it is so much fun and the possibilities are endless – technique sheets and patterns for square in a square in a square, snail’s trail, pineapple block, bird of paradise and more will follow.  The first of these will be released at Quilt Market and available here late May.

Park Bench Designs

We love these new patterns using the Studio 180 Design Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star tool; great for classes too! We have also set up a new section for all Studio 180 Design companion patterns given many designers are starting to recommend Studio 180 tools and include instructions in their patterns.

Elizabeth Hartman – Oh Fransson

If you haven’t introduced these patterns into your shop yet, you need to take a look!  Elizabeth’s Fancy Forest and animal patterns for pillows and quilts are the hottest items we have seen for a while.  Great for kits and classes. They appeal to both modern and traditional quilters and are fun to make.  And the butterfly/dragonfly patterns coming this summer are going to be just as popular!  Our pre orders are in and we will have them as soon as they are available.

Karen Kay Buckley

Many of you have already ordered the new KKB Perfect Adjustable Rulers,  24” rulers in 3” and 6” widths.  They come apart in 6” puzzle pieces and come with their own felt carry bag.  We have tested them by cutting a few full quilts and bolts of fabric into fat quarters and the joins are smooth as can be - great for retreats and classes……anyone who has broken their long ruler taking it along will appreciate this product.

Flatter, Soak and Handmaid

We are now selling products from Canadian company Soak Wash.  Flatter is the best all-natural non-starch spray.  No formaldehyde or other nasty stuff and according to some of our long arm quilter customers who have already tried it, it does a great job of taming those nasty wrinkles that make quilting a challenge.  Gail asked Deb Tucker to give it a try at Fall Market and she loved it so much she purchased a case for herself.  Soak is a great gentle wash for quilts and other fine washables.  Handmaid is a delicate and wonderful feeling hand cream.  All of the above products come in different scents and scentless.

Modern Blended Quilts

Calgary’s Susan Madu has designed a great new line of quilt patterns and Erie Quilt Art will be distributing them for her in Canada.  Her Strip and Flip quilt is an easy pattern, fat quarter friendly and great for kits.  Gail made one in a day and it was lots of fun to do.
